Wanker of the Week #01

This is the first of an experimental series titled: "Wanker of the Week". (WotW) A "wanker" is English slang for "a person who says or does something that is simultaneously arrogant and mind-bendingly stupid."*

I've wanted to do a WotW feature for awhile now, but there were several reasons why I shelved the idea. Firstly, while this is a partisan blog, being flat-out mean by calling people names is not my usual style.

Second, there wasn't anyone who I felt needed to be honored with an award like this outside the normal flow of Brainshrub.com.

Finaly, a WotW is not a new idea. Why experiment with a blog project unles you have something new to add to the conversation?

Then, earlier this week, I read about a person who personifies a wanker so perfectly, that I just had to take WotW out of the box. He practically has the word "Wanker" tattooed on his forehead. He is so wanker-y, that justice demands that he receive an award for his efforts.

In fact, I'm going to use his face, with the aforementioned tattoo, as the official logo for the "Wanker of the Week" award so that future blog scholars can look upon his visage and exclaim: "Ohhh, so that's what a wanker looked like."

So without further ado, I present the first-ever "Brainshrub.com Wanker of the Week Award" to:

Sheriff Strain of St. Tammany Parish, across the lake directly north of New Orleans.

To re-hash the main points:

"Now I don’t get into calling people names and all that fact, but if you’re gonna walk the streets of St. Tammany Parish with dreadlocks and "Chee Wee" hairstyles, then you can expect to be getting a visit from a sheriff’s deputy."

So you don't go calling people names - but you just did. You wanker.

Racial profiling is bad policing, a waste of taxpayer money, increases tensions between races and fills jails with people who commit minor offenses thus leaving violent criminals on the streets. You wanker.

During the interview Strain speaks as if poverty-stricken residents are collaborating with expensive lawyers to gang up on other residents of the Parrish. He then goes on to suggest that what few criminal defence lawyers there are left in New Orleans be "the first people we should put on the rail and get out of here".

Yuck. What a wanker.

Oh, and that snotty remark about Katrina refugees being "trash" and "thugs" really got my goat. So add "classist" to being a wanker.

Sheriff Strain, in case you are reading this, I had never heard of "Chee Wee" hair before; but that bullet-proof coif you have going on is nothing to be proud of. If the refugees in Tammany Parrish could afford to spend as much on housing as you spend on hair-products, there would be a lot less poverty. You wanker.

* Wanker is also a slang for someone who masturbates heavily. However, since Brainshrub.com is a family-friendly blog we'll stick with the first definition. By the way, kudos to EvilPundit for the concise definition.
